What is the series Litvinenko about?
Every self-respecting country must have intelligence services. This includes not only secrets of other states or industrial espionage but also ensuring information about possible provocations and threats to the integrity of the state. Forewarned is forearmed, as the saying goes, and it is precisely these postulates that guide foreign intelligence. Alexander Walterovich Litvinenko was a representative of the Committee for State Security in that bygone country, which disappeared more than thirty years ago.
In the early nineties, the hegemon collapsed into numerous independent states. Although their commonwealth existed, constant quarrels and disputes between them, tense relations, and other misunderstandings among the separated states grew, and even old "opponents" from the camp did not allow for relaxation, meaning intelligence had to work, albeit no longer for the USSR, but still for its homeland, Russia.
However, things are not so straightforward in the successor of the Soviet Union; the power of the party or the power of the people was not so clear-cut even under Soviet rule, and even more so under a market economy. What can be said if the same president essentially relieved the people of the much-needed, even necessary in a democracy, concept of "elections." No, they took place, and people even voted for someone, but power remained firmly in the hands of the leader, whose ambitions and aspirations could not always be realized without shedding blood. One of those cogs, executing the will and desire of the government, simply could not continue in this system, Alexander Walterovich, and sought political asylum in Great Britain.
