Noughts + Crosses

Many great empires have flourished throughout human history, many of which have left their mark to this day. The Roman Empire gave us the alphabet, engineering, and the names of the months; the Sumerians left us the concept of time and the measurement of angles; China left gunpowder, porcelain, and a cheap labor force of one and a half billion people. But let’s imagine that at one beautiful time, a man arose who united several countries in East Africa. How would the development of humanity unfold then?
What is the series Noughts + Crosses about?
Such a situation occurred seven hundred years ago. The joint economy of these countries allowed for the creation of weapons and a force that no European state could contend with, and it all, starting from foggy Albion to Poland and Estonia, fell under the control of a powerful empire. Russia and the Balkans are the only bastion of resistance, a hot spot that has lasted for nearly five hundred years. A clear hierarchy and social divisions have led to a curious picture in the former European Union countries, where dark-skinned people now rule.

An aristocracy of black skin, belonging to the ruling elite and calling themselves the Crosses, governs the white commoners, who have no rights or freedoms. All whites are referred to as Noughts, and they are not allowed to hold leadership positions or possess weapons. Resistance is flourishing, revolutionary cells are being organized, which the authorities deal with through forceful methods, ruthlessly shooting at demonstrations and pickets.
Against this backdrop, the story tells us about two young people, a white youth named Callum McGregor, whose relatives and friends are part of the independence movement, and the daughter of a political figure and Minister of the Interior, Kamal Hadley, Sephy Hadley, who has known him since childhood. These two, amidst all the horror around them, find feelings for each other, and they must fight for their relationship, which is not accepted by either opposing side.

Persephone "Sephy" Hadley is the daughter of a prominent politician, an aristocrat. She is loyal to the whites and tries to do everything in her power to ease their lives. She falls in love with her old childhood friend Callum. The role is played by Masali Baduza.
Callum McGregor is a cadet from the first intake into the white army. Sephy's childhood friend and the object of her affection. He reciprocates her feelings. The role is played by Jack Rowan.

Maggie McGregor is Callum and Jude's mother. She works as a governess in the Hadley household. The role is played by Helen Baxendale.
Jude McGregor is the main character's brother. A bold and combative young man, one of the leaders of the underground resistance. The role is played by Josh Dylan.
Kamal Hadley is the Minister of the Interior, an aristocrat of the Crosses. The father of Sephy and her sister Minerva. He has a sharply negative attitude towards his daughter's infatuation. The role is played by Paterson Joseph.
