Plot of the series
The events of the series take place in the French state of the 17th-18th centuries. The main character in this story is Louis XIV. He is quite small, inexperienced, and very immature. The starting point of the unfolding actions is the death of young Louis's father, and he, as the heir, suddenly inherits the right to the throne.
However, because he was only a four-year-old child, unable to bear such a heavy burden, his mother takes over the governance of the country. She faces much criticism and warnings, but despite all the difficulties, this woman manages power quite wisely, maintaining stability and prosperity within the state while her son grows up to eventually take his place on the throne as an adult. But all plans are instantly shattered when the queen and Louis's mother dies. The council pressures the young man, forcing him to take on all the responsibilities required of him. He is not thrilled, as he has spent almost his entire conscious life avoiding making such important decisions that affect the fates of many people, but he has no choice but to accept this as a given and take his rightful place. This becomes unbearable for him; the newly crowned king suffers, and on top of that, he develops paranoia and a persecution complex, which constantly makes him worry for his life. Many wish to overthrow Louis. At first, he tries to keep everything under control, but unfortunately, his efforts do not succeed. Then the young man decides to flee the capital, where he is under so much pressure, and govern from Versailles without personal contact.
Louis XIV is the king and the main character, who found it very difficult to take on the governance of the state due to the discomfort that making important decisions caused him and the enormous responsibility it placed on his shoulders. Unable to withstand the pressure from the council and others, he flees to Versailles, from where he continues his affairs without participating directly.
Maria Theresa is the wife of Louis XIV and an opponent of a harmful, unhealthy lifestyle.
Madame de Montespan is the king's favorite.
Philippe is the Duke of Orleans, Louis's younger brother, who lost his wife.
