Chainsaw Man

TV Tokyo launched "Chainsaw Man" in the fall of 2022 — an anime that became a phenomenon of modern anime culture in just 12 episodes, attracting viewers not only with its brutality but also with its absurd honesty. The premiere on October 11 introduces viewers to Denji — a poor demon hunter who merges with his demon dog Pochita after death and gains the ability to turn his hands into chainsaws, becoming a "weapon" for the government agency.
The series is created by MAPPA ("JoJo", "Attack on Titan" final) and works on the contrast between poverty and the supernatural: Denji dreams not of saving the world, but of bread with butter and a girlfriend, but is forced to slice demons to survive. The tone is dark comedy with extreme brutality: there is no heroic romance, only cynicism, blood, and unexpected sincerity. The format of the first season of 12 episodes was continued with the film "Reze Arc" (2025) and the second season (2025).
If you watched "JoJo" and appreciated the absurdity of the battles there, or "Tokyo Ghoul" for the transformation of a person into a monster — "Chainsaw Man" will offer a more cynical and "adult" take on the genre. For comparison with other "dark" shōnen, watch "Fire Punch" or "Dorohedoro."
