Lovecraft Country

Howard Lovecraft wrote many intriguing books filled with horror and madness. He became the founder of the horror genre and is the creator of the infamous Cthulhu. His works have been adapted numerous times, and many other works have been written based on them, both continuing the main theme and completely separate yet related. One such work is Matthew Teron's book "Lovecraft Country," which inspired the series described below.
What is the series Lovecraft Country about?
The story follows Atticus Freeman, who receives a strange letter from his father. His father tells him that he found something interesting about his mother in the suburbs of Chicago, and the main character should go there. Atticus takes his uncle, his father's brother Joe, agrees to the persistent requests of his best friend Letitia to accompany him, and sets off on the journey.
Traveling through "White" America, a representative of the colored population of the United States is predictably subjected to persecution, despite all the laws in place. Upon arrival, he does not find his father at the agreed location and sets out to search for him. The trail leads to a country house owned by Braithwhite. The latter wants to summon a Force into our world that will give him power over people.

The catch is that Atticus himself, like his father, is the last surviving descendant of a powerful wizard who commanded this force, and his blood can open the gates to it. Something must be done about this, as this force is not only alien to all that is human, but it is also hostile to it, and what will happen if it is unleashed remains to be imagined.
The procedure itself is highly likely to end fatally for the key, and the hero decides to replace his father on the altar. Along with this, he is given a spell that, when performed, will fundamentally change the ritual, allowing this force not to be released into the world. However, the question remains open as to whether the main character will survive the ritual process, even altered as a result of the spell's activation.

Atticus Freeman is a young man, a veteran of the recently concluded Korean War. He sets out to find his father while encountering things that ordinary reason cannot comprehend. The role is played by Jonathan Majors.
Letitia Lewis is an experienced photographer and the main character's best friend. Their relationship later develops into a romantic one. The role is played by Jurnee Smollett.

George Freeman is a smart and well-read, equally kind and attentive uncle of the main character. He sets out with his nephew to search for his brother. The role is played by Courtney B. Vance.
Christina Braithwhite is the daughter of the leader of a secret mystical organization called "The Order of the Ancient Dawn." The role is played by Abbey Lee.
