Disney XD launched "Rebels" in the summer of 2014 — the first Lucasfilm project after Disney's acquisition, linking the era of "Revenge of the Sith" with "A New Hope." The premiere on August 4 opens the story of the crew of the Ghost ship: Ezra Bridger — an orphan boy with the Force, Kanan Jarrus — a surviving Jedi Master, Hera Syndulla — a revolutionary pilot, Sabine Wren — a Mandalorian artist-explosives expert, and Zeb — the last warrior of the Lasat race.
The series serves as an "introduction to the universe" for a new generation: it has a simpler plot, brighter colors, and more humor than "The Clone Wars." But gradually the tone matures — characters from the original trilogy (Leia, Lando, Vader) appear, and the finale shifts the action to the era of "Rogue One." The format of 74 episodes shows how a group of rebels transforms into the Rebel Alliance.
If you watched "The Clone Wars" and were waiting for the continuation of the Jedi story, or enjoyed "The Mandalorian" for its "live" space atmosphere — "Rebels" offers a lighter, yet equally emotional experience. For comparison with other "rebellion" series, watch "Andor" or "Resistance."
