Description

The premiere took place on March 26, 2018, on AMC — an anthology of historical horror, each season of which explores a new "historical tragedy" through the lens of the supernatural. Season 1: Franklin's Arctic expedition (1845) and the mysterious creature Tuunbaq. Season 2: Japanese internment camps in the USA (1942) and the spirits of obake. Season 3 ("Devil in Silver," May 2026): New Hyde psychiatric hospital (1990s) and a demon that feeds on the suffering of patients. The tone is atmospheric, meditative horror: here slow build-up, historical accuracy, and philosophical reflections on humanity. For fans of "Chernobyl" and "The Shining," seeking "smart" horror with a cinematic budget.

Interesting facts
01
Season 1 is based on the novel by Dan Simmons — filming took place in Croatia and the Canadian Arctic, using real replica ships HMS Erebus and Terror
02
Season 2 ("Infamy") — the first Hollywood project about Japanese internment camps with an Asian cast and consultant George Takei (who experienced the camp as a child)
03
Season 3 ("Devil in Silver") is based on the novel by Victor LaValle — Dan Stevens plays Pepper, a worker mistakenly placed in a psychiatric hospital, where he meets a demon
04
Ridley Scott is the executive producer of all seasons — his studio Scott Free ensures cinematic quality, rare for television horror
05
The series is recognized as one of the most "adult" and "literary" horrors of AMC — compared to "True Detective" and "The Haunting of Hill House"
FAQ
Do I need to watch the seasons in order?

No, it's an anthology — each season is standalone. Thematic connection: historical tragedies + supernatural explanations of events.

Which season is the scariest?

Subjectively, but season 1 (ice desert, cannibalism, monster) is considered cult; season 2 is mystical (obake); season 3 is psychological (psychiatric hospital).

Will there be a season 4?

Not announced, but AMC has mentioned the possibility of continuation if season 3 is successful — the format allows for endless stories (any historical tragedy + demon).

How does it differ from "American Horror Story"?

There is no black humor or star cameos here — only historical accuracy and slow, "literary" horror without jump scares.

Is it suitable for viewers who are afraid of horror?

No, the series truly scares with atmosphere and psychology, not just "monsters" — TV-MA rating (18+).
