Description

Premiere on Netflix took place on June 26, 2026 — all episodes at once. "The Guy in the Last Row" (Notes from the Last Row / 맨 끝줄 소년) is a South Korean psychological thriller, an adaptation of the Spanish play by Juan Mayorga "El chico de la última fila". Heo Mun-oh is a professor of Korean literature and a writer who has published only one book. Disappointed with his students and his own failure, he suddenly discovers the talent of Lee Gan — a quiet student sitting in the last row. What begins as literary admiration quickly turns into obsession, where the boundaries between fiction, ambition, and manipulation blur.
The tone is dark, intellectual, with elements of psychological horror. Kim Gyu-tae ("That Winter, the Wind Blows", "Moon Lovers") creates an atmosphere where every dialogue is a chess game, and every glance from Lee Gan can mean anything. Choi Min-sik ("Oldboy", "I Saw the Devil") returns to television after a three-year break, and his presence sets the pace for the entire series.
Format — miniseries, number of episodes ~6–8. Script — Jang Myung-woo. Production — Netflix Studios. Mayorga's play previously inspired François Ozon for the film "In the House" (2012), but the Korean adaptation takes a darker, psychological turn.
If you watched Ozon's "In the House" or "The Professor and His Ghosts" — "The Guy in the Last Row" operates on the same wavelength: obsession, literature, and the destruction of personal boundaries. Fans of Korean psychological thrillers and strong acting will enjoy the dynamics, and for those looking for an unconventional detective story without blood — this is one of the most intellectual projects on Netflix in 2026.
