The premiere on MBS, TBS, and other JNN channels took place on January 11, 2026. "You and I Are Polar Opposites" (Seihantai na Kimi to Boku) is a Japanese anime series in the genre of school romantic comedy, adapted from the manga by Kohei Agasawa. Suzuki is an energetic girl who can't help but follow the crowd. Tani is a quiet, reserved boy who easily expresses his opinions. When these polar opposites collide in high school, an awkward yet warm romance begins to blossom between them.
The tone is light, tender, with elements of awkward comedy. The series takes its time: it spends moments in school hallways, libraries, summer festivals, and class trips, creating a feeling that the viewer is sitting at their desk. Sayumi Suzushiro and Shogo Sakata voice the main couple with a naturalness that makes you believe in their chemistry.
The format consists of 12 episodes of ~24 minutes (first season), with a second season announced for July 2026. Animation by Lapin Track. Script by Teruko Utsumi ("Sarazanmai"), music by tofubeats, character design by Mako Miyako. Produced by SHOCHIKU anime.
If you enjoyed "Horimiya" or "Our Beloved Summer," "You and I Are Polar Opposites" operates on the same wavelength: school romance without drama, filled with awkward moments and first feelings. Fans of light romantic comedies will enjoy the atmosphere, and those looking for cozy anime will find this one of the best projects of the winter season 2026.
