WOWOW launched the unique isekai "The Bookworm's Power" in the fall of 2019, where the main character is not seeking adventures — she is seeking books in a world where they are almost non-existent. The premiere on October 2 introduces viewers to Yurano — a dying librarian who is reborn as a weak girl named Mine in a medieval fantasy world and decides to create the first library despite illnesses and social barriers.
The series contrasts Mine's modern knowledge (how to print books, make paper) with the medieval reality where books are a rarity for the wealthy. The tone is meditative and warm, with elements of economic strategy and politics: the heroine gradually builds a business empire to earn money for books. The format of 37 episodes (3 seasons) shows her journey from "sick girl" to baroness-librarian.
If you enjoyed "Dr. Stone" for its scientific recreation of civilization, or "Spice and Wolf" for its economic intrigues — this series has the same focus on knowledge as power. For comparison with other "weak" heroines, watch "The Saga of Tanya the Evil" or "Ascendance of a Bookworm."
